Wa Ya Say?, I’m Travis Richards – though you can call me Dr. T. I'm an unapologetically Afro-Caribbean Black creative from islands The Bahamas, where culture, resilience, and storytelling are woven into every part of who I am. With over 15 years in education and research, I've guided students through not only academic excellence but into self-discovery, helping them navigate identities and personal challenges with a spirit of resilience. My dissertation, “Wa Ya See?” dives deep into the nuanced experiences of a Black, Quare, Afro-Caribbean asylum seeker in U.S. higher education. It’s both a scholarly analysis and a personal manifesto for creating spaces where diverse identities are seen, valued, and celebrated.
With two decades of design experience spanning photography, videography, and graphic art, I bridge research and creativity to connect people on a profound level. Storytelling is at my core, expressed through visual narratives that elevate voices and celebrate Blackness in all its forms. I created The Safe Space by Travis Chavez, a platform and movement that empowers people of color to share their raw, authentic truths and reject the boundaries imposed by mainstream stereotypes. Through our podcast, apparel, and community events, we amplify voices that are too often unheard, celebrating self-discovery and self-definition in a society where these are acts of resilience.
On the creative side, my alter-ego, DeloAldier, is the boundary-pusher, the one who brings raw energy and a bold vision to every project. Together, we’re not just creating but challenging, celebrating, and connecting – making sure that every story we tell isn’t just heard, but felt. If you’re ready for something bold, empathetic, and unforgettable, let’s build something that resonates.
